Local Unit > York SCM

The Student Christian Movement at York is an inclusive ecumenical student organization which focuses on justice, community, and spirituality.

The Student Christian Movement (SCM) at York University is York’s local unit of SCM Canada. SCM Canada is part of an international network of youth and students engaged in spirituality and progressive social and environmental justice issues. SCM is among the oldest student movements still in existence. The SCM is non-creedal—it allows students and youth to explore and challenge the Christian tradition from where they are at—whether they be Christian (from all denominations and expressions ranging from Roman Catholic to mainline Protestants and Anglicans to evangelicals and Orthodox), spiritual seekers, or those of many faiths. Our mandate is to “seek justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God” (Micah 6:8). SCM Canada is affiliated with the international ecumenical organization, The World Student Christian Federation.

SCM at York University currently draws members from a number of denominations, and is strongly connected with local congregations and clergy. We are supported by local and national churches as well as donations from individuals. York SCM is an open and affirming (queer positive) campus ministry.

Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice… to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?
-Isaiah 58:6
