Seize the Pulpit!
A youth-led initiative by the Student Christian Movement of Canada
February 10, 2010
Justice. Jesus. Peace. Prophets. Reclaiming faith. Revolution.
Got something to say? On the Universal Day of Prayer for Students (UDPS, February 20, 2010), SCMers across Canada and the world are raising our voices in the churches and having our message heard. Will you seize the pulpit?
As we near the UDPS, we will be posting resources, sermon notes, pointers and ideas, orders of service, and more on this website to help you take over a church for a day. The first step is to ask a local church – any denomination, though you might pick one you have personal connections in already – to hand over the pulpit one Sunday to let local SCMers (or just yourself) speak about the important faith and justice work SCM is doing today. Ideally, they would let SCM lead the homily/sermon time, though any part of the service would be appropriate to participate in.
It’s less scary than you imagine. You just need to book the space enough time in advance for the minister/priest to plan their holidays around it (just kidding), and we’ll help you out with further resources.
This is an important and exciting opportunity for churches in Canada to share in a worldwide event (UDPS) which has happened for more than 100 years – and to raise SCM’s profile as one of Canada’s foremost spiritual activist movements.
