Climate action day & Indigenous sovereignty week
Today is Climate Action Day – SCMers in Canada are joining the climate justice movement and participating in actions, such as the mass rally on Parliament Hill. Plus, as we head into Indigenous Sovereignty Week (Oct 25-31) SCM has been represented on a Christian Peacemaker Teams delegation to Grassy Narrows First Nation in Ontario (read about both on our blog).
October 24 is a day of action around the Earth as people take to the streets and demand urgent action on Climate Change.

As our fall All Things New magazine issue approaches (printed in a couple weeks!), the theme of Eco-Justice is on many of our minds. How is the ecological crisis a justice issue? Who is impacted by our economic system’s assault on the Earth?
In Canada, eco-justice is especially a crisis for Indigenous peoples, who are at the frontlines defending the land. Interestingly, next week is also Indigenous Sovereignty Week across the country. The intersection of these vital issues – environment and indigenous rights – has been coming into sharp focus in the SCM this past year, and we hope to continue taking action to address them. Will you join us?
