SCM solidarity with people of Iran

(July 11, 2009):
The SCM General Board has called on all people of conscience to support the people of Iran, and to uphold freedom of expression in the midst of the popular resistance in that country.

With media focus on Iran, many protesters arrested and possibly tortured, and escalated calls for a Western invasion or intervention, the SCM has clearly demanded both the rights of civilians, in particular protesters, be respected by the Iranian government, but has also called for repentance and change in the history of imperialism imposed upon Iran by Western states.

The Board’s SCM Solidarity Statement with Demonstrations in Iran makes specific demands of the Iranian and Western states, and looks forward to relationships based on global justice.
