SCM was founded in 1921, emerging out of the YM/YWCA movement in Canada. Over the decades, it was at the forefront of the ‘social gospel’ movement for a more just Canadian society, took stands against the internment of Japanese Canadians during WWII, and held summer ‘work camps’ which connected students to the factory union movement.
