5. Enter the date (use the calendar link if you need it). You can make the event repeat (ie. weekly) by clicking the drop-down menu under the date.
B. UPDATING YOUR LOCAL UNIT WEBPAGE
Every unit gets its own website, which you should use to advertise your unit on posters, etc – it’s www.scmcanada.org/[localunit] (so Saskatoon SCM’s is http://www.scmcanada.org/saskatoon
Each webpage has your contact info, a mini-calendar linked to the General Calendar, and a Facebook link to your own group.
1. Login: http://www.scmcanada.org/admin (Link or click the “USER LOGIN” link at the bottom of every page)
2. User: the first part of your unit’s email address (ie. victoria@scmcanada.org – your user name is victoria)
3. Password: provided by General Office, can be reset at your request
4. Click on your local unit’s name in the list under “Local Units” and type
5. Use the button bar above the text entry box to change the text formating (ie. B for bold, I for italics, H1 for a title heading, H2 for subtitle heading, etc) including inserting photos, etc.
6. How to Create a new sub-page (eg. "scmcanada.org/[localunit]/news):
From the main menu (first one you saw after logging in) click “Add Child” to the far right beside your local unit’s name. Click the “more options” link below the title to give it a special address.

LARGER QUANTITIES
1. Email your photos to info@scmcanada.org indicating what the event is, and what page they are to go on.
D. USING THE SCM WEB FORUMS
Please use our forums – they are one of the main ways we keep our website community active and dynamic – it will attract students but we are all responsible to add contents, create new discussions, etc.
Go to SCM forums page (www.scmcanada.org/forum)
Create an account by clicking the “Sign Up” link in the top right corner.
E. ADDING EXTRA PAGES (‘CHILDREN’) TO YOUR WEBPAGE
A. Click on “Add Child” button to the right of the page title in the main menu page, eg. if you want to add a sub-page under Manitoba SCM, click the “Add Child” beside that page in the menu
1. In the “Child” page editor: Click “More” button below the title
2. Change the “Slug” field to pick your own page location (eg. “info” or “blah”) – So if you Add a Child under the Vancouver local unit page (scmcanada.org/vancouver) the link will then be, for instance, scmcanada.org/vancouver/info or scmcanada.org/vancouver/blah
3. At the bottom of the page, change “Status” bar to “Published” (not “draft”) – Otherwise it won’t show up.
4. You can allow users to comment on something by checking the “Comment” box. We encourage lots of comment pages to liven up the site.
5. There are several interfaces available to make web design easier – Click “Filter” (just below the title) and try “WymEditor” (most like typing an email – just click the icon and voila, it changes the text to bold, adds images, etc) or “Textile” (Text must be selected first, click the buttons, and it adds the required code)
F. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I added a page or child page and it didn’t show up?
Make sure the “Status” menu (bottom right of the page editor) is switched to “Published” (not “Draft”)
I can’t figure out how to add photos, or I have too many, or they are too large
If you’re really stuck, email your photos to the email on the SCM Contact page indicating what the event is, and what page they are to go on (eg. your local unit, atn, etc).
What is this Slug thing? How do I link to my page?
For a page, make sure you know what the page’s “Slug” is – that’s the location of the page in the overall directory of the website.
The site automatically gives you a slug, or you can make one up. You can find the slug using the “More” link just below the Title box when you’re editing a page. Whatever’s in Slug is the location, so if you’re in the Vancouver directory (scmcanada.org/vancouver) and you added a child, a Slug of “Blah” will appear as scmcanada.org/vancouver/blah. You can add Children of Children infinitely (just like people) and it would come out as scmcanada.org/vancouver/blah/page2 for instance.
Once you know the Slug and “parent directory” (what your page is under, eg. Vancouver), that is the webpage. To link to it, set your “Filter” to “Textile” or “WymEditor”, select the text that will take you to the page, and click the linked chains icon. Enter the link (with full http:// before it).
How do I put a photo on my own webpage?
1. Click the “Galleries” tab from any page of the editor.
2. If you are a local unit, click the small + to the left of “Local/Regional Photos,” and again the + for your region/province.
3. Once inside you’re local unit (eg. Local/Regional Photos > Province > Local Unit/City) click “Add Child” for each event you organize. This is important or all your photos will lump into one giant place and then you can’t sort them later.
4. Upload your photos using the technique above .
4. Each photo in the directory has a small magnifying glass below, right-click this to “Copy Link Location” – you can post this link in your page using the Photo Icon in WymEditor or Textile filter inside the page editor. (Hint: It’s a photo-shaped blue box)
