Global Movement

This world is in such desperate need of a new generation of prophets who can rise up and speak out against the tides of injustice

As one of more than 100 affiliated movements in the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF), the Student Christian Movement of Canada (SCM-C) is a proud part of the global ecumenical (Christian unity) movement.

Since its founding in 1895, the passion, love and spirit of justice of WSCF’s young leadership has kept it a maker of history in countless people’s movements, churches and political spheres. Today WSCF continues as the foremost leader in ecumenical formation for Christian students and youth in more than one hundred national movements across the globe.

Throughout Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Middle East, Latin America and Caribbean and North America, WSCF’s 2 million young women and men lead at the radical edge of their cultures, challenging their peers to a greater understanding of their Christian commitment and to the work of upholding justice, peace and the fullness of life for the whole of God’s creation.

SCM Canada students have been blessed by our participation in international events and gatherings, such as the 2008 WSCF General Assembly which we hosted in Montreal QC, and sending a student to inter-regional programs, and being represented on the WSCF Executive Committee. If you would like to connect to WSCF activities, let us know!

In SCM, we are bound in solidarity and unity with vastly different movements across culture, race, gender and other power divisions. Some SCM’s are persecuted by their governments for doing social justice work we take for granted. Some have hundreds of thousands of students, some are small (including SCM Canada) and see ourselves as prophets in the midst of Empire.
