SCM Co-Chair
My name is Sheryl and I’m a student also at the University of Toronto in the Master’s of Divinity programme (I’m at Emmanuel College which is connected with the United Church). I’ve been involved with the SCM for some time now, and am currently the local unit coordinator at U of T and involved with the national movement. I’m really excited for the pilgrimage programme – last year I had an excellent experience and this year I am looking forward to deepening that, coming in from a different angle, just trying to be open to whatever this year might be.
More broadly, I’m a busy person who really feeds off of that kind of energy – involved with a lot of community groups and campus groups especially around justice in Palestine, gender and women’s liberation, the environment, multi-faith cooperation, creative public engagement, etc. I’m passionate about the church and my prairie roots (I’m from Winnipeg) in the social gospel tradition give me hope about what the church can be. I’m really excited to meet you all and journey southward together!
