The SCM is a radical, inclusive, empowering, and dynamic organization of fun and crazy, dedicated individuals looking to bring peace and justice to the world, all because of their spiritual beliefs. I loved being a part of the SCM even though it challenged me to be transformed all the time.

The people, the dialogue and experiences shaped and informed my politics, and helped me to see things from so many interesting perspectives. I gained leadership experience, and I credit the SCM with training me in facilitation and coordination of events. Great on your resume and in your life. The SCM is an amazing community…

I was with the SCM for about 7 years when I was at university (93 on), including being on the national board, leading a local unit (at the University of Regina) and travelling to the Philippines with the movement in 1997. The group at the U of R lasted only a year, but we had a vibrant, interested (albeit small) group with meetings including meditations, talking circles on various justice and spirituality topics, selling fair-trade goods and a coffee house / awareness-raising fundraiser for the SCM Philippines. We hosted the regional retreat that year, and then, the following year, under the auspices of the SCM and WUSC (World University Service of Canada), ran a series of films and speakers on Leaders of Non-Violent Resistance. It was a big deal.

The SCM is awesome. I hope you will join and continue to transform the world!

Peace of Christ,
Rachel MacDonald
